FIRON-UGGC: The international alliance of two leading law firms in Morocco and Israel

In December 2020, Morocco became the fourth Arabic country to officialise the normalisation of its diplomatic relations with Israel. Cooperation agreements had already been signed between the two nations covering multiple sectors of activity (culture, sport, tourism, etc.).

Further to the Abraham agreements, the international law firms M. FIRON & CO. and UGGC Africa created an integrated legal platform to facilitate legal services for all investments between Israel and Morocco (and more generally in Africa).

Ali Bougrine, Managing Partner of UGGC Africa, states: “This alliance is the result of a historical collaboration between our two firms. Our teams share the same values and regularly work on major cross-border transactions. We are proud to announce our alliance with one of the leading business law firms in Israel.”

THE SEAL OF TALENT AND INNOVATION

Beyond a regular collaboration agreement between correspondent firms, this alliance presents an innovative structural dimension, notably through the establishment of:

▪ dedicated common teams (structured around a management committee, a development committee and an operational committee),

▪ exchange programmes for lawyers between the two firms

Zvi Firon, head of the Firon law firm, after announcing the partnership, explained: “Firon and UGGC are two firms that stand out in their international vision and the quality of service that they each extend to their clients. Therefore, the partnership that we are establishing is a natural step, one that will contribute to our ability to furnish cross-border legal services, crucial in the current climate, to a greater number and a wider variety of clients, thus helping them meet ever greater international challenges.”

The entire FIRON-UGGC team is driven by a single objective: to bring together the best expertise and knowledge of local challenges in order to offer private and public players support tailored to their needs.

This alliance capitalizes on more than 450 talents in about 20 international locations.

ABOUT UGGC AFRICA
In December 2002, UGGC Avocats created a subsidiary office in Casablanca. It was one of the first French law firms to set up an office in Morocco to develop a pan-African legal and tax advisory platform. The Moroccan office has since become one of the foremost international law firms in Africa intervening regularly in Morocco but also in Algeria, Tunisia as well as in Sub-Saharan, West and Central Africa. In 2014, the firm also opened an “Africa Desk” in Paris – always with the aim of remaining close to its European clients. The Desk consists of lawyers in the Paris office who are perfectly knowledgeable in OHADA law so that our European clients have a contact close-at-hand in Paris. In 2021, the name of the subsidiary in Morocco changed to UGGC Africa to emphasize the firm’s African presence and ambitions. The same year, UGGC Africa has considerably grown by developing its networks in both Cameroon and Ivory Coast. With 10 offices in 4 geographical areas (Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America), UGGC Avocats gathers over 170 lawyers, including 33 partners in Paris.
